Evaluation and Measures of Success for Exchange City

 

Formal evaluation data includes information from teachers, principals, parents, and students.

 

Teachers believe the all-day simulation at Exchange City reinforces the concepts taught in the classroom and that students gained a better overall understanding of economics from having participated in a hands-on educational program.

 

Basic Economics Test (BET) of the Joint Council on Economics Education showed improved scores after completing the Exchange City program. The average test score rose from 7.5 on the pretest to 9.7 on the post-test.

 

Indiana University Longitudinal Study showed

  • 88% of teachers and parents believed children were required to apply their math and language skills in the simulation.

  • Parents’ and teachers’ attitudes toward children, the business community, and schools positively increased 7% after participating.

  • Parents’ and teachers’ beliefs that children needed to understand and appreciate business positively increased 11% after participating.

  • 84% of participating children believed they would be good workers and good citizens after the simulation.

  • 97% of teachers wanted to continue their involvement with Junior Achievement and Exchange City.
