Connections® JA Success Skills

 

JA Success Skills focuses on developing students' interpersonal effectiveness. Through an assessment, the students identify the strengths and unique potentials of their interpersonal skills. They examine how their interpersonal skills match careers of interest to them, develop resumes, and practice their skills in mock job interviews. They begin work on a skill portfolio that they can carry with them into the work force when seeking employment.

Activity One: Great Expectations

Through role play, the students discover the importance of interpersonal skills and how they can further develop their own.

Activity Four: Interpersonal Effectiveness

The students will receive the results of the video assessment they completed the previous session. They will interpret their individual results and receive examples of how they can build on their skills measured in the assessment.

Activity Five: Building Rapport

Activity Six: Influencing Others

Activity Seven: Teamwork

The students construct a product, an activity that requires working together to reach a common goal.

JA Success Skills is an eight- to 10-session course and is recommended for students in grades 9 through 12. Instructional materials are packaged for 30 students and include detailed activity plans for the volunteer, workbooks for students, and a video assessment with scoring software.


All JA programs have technology enhancements and are designed to support the skills and competencies outlined in the SCANS (Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills) report. These programs also augment the school-based, work-based, and connecting activities for communities with school-to-work initiatives.
